Around 25,000 households in southeastern Queensland woke up experiencing outages on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms impacted the state, generating powerful gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Damage

Homeowners reported large ice chunks measuring up to 7cm in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that multiple regions across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing power throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams deployed to manage the widespread outages.

Southern State's Weather Woes

At the same time, approximately one thousand energy customers in Victoria also encountered energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its wettest day in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services handled 598 calls for help across the state, mainly for building damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing - numerous rescue reports
• Wyndham - 179 emergency requests

At one point on yesterday, in excess of 28k power users in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along large portions of Queensland's east this next several days as a atmospheric system continued to attract humidity against the coast.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent thunderstorm potential anticipated across multiple regions of both regions.

Safety Concern

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.
