Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests show the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important representative commented the incident made him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
